Cinema & New Media Arts professor Chris Hartwell recently premiered a new short film, The Way That I Take, which is now screening at a number of film festivals across the country. The short film tells the story of a burned-out nurse who is trapped by a broken system and the corrosive lies he tells to survive after a simple mistake turns into a fatal error.
In September, The Way That I Take had its World Premiere at the Dance With Films festival in Los Angeles, CA, taking home a 2nd Place Grand Jury Prize. This month, it will premiere in Texas at the Austin Film Festival. The film has also received recognition from the Austin Under the Stars Film Festival, Deep in the Heart Film Festival, and the Houston International Film Festival.
The short film was shot in the summer of 2019, and it provided a fantastic opportunity for HBU alumni, as well as current Cinematic Arts students, to collaborate with industry professionals. The film was also produced by Prof. Joshua Sikora and co-starred Prof. Jesse GrothOlson.
Prof. Hartwell will continue to provide learning experiences like this—next he plans to adapt The Way That I Take into a feature-length film.
