Award-Winning Short Film by HBU CNMA Faculty

Cinema & New Media Arts professor Jesse GrothOlson led a team of local media professionals and HBU students in the production of 4F, a short film produced for the 48 Hour Film Project. The timed challenge required the team to write, produce, and complete the entire eight-minute film in under two days. Given the theme of “War / Anti-War” and a set of other requirements, GrothOlson co-wrote the film with lead actor Blake McMahon. GrothOlson also directed and plays a supporting role in the film.
HBU CNMA students supported the production in a variety of roles: Zach White served as Key Grip, Lydia Jameson was Assistant Editor, and Alex Morgan worked as Assistant Camera to the film’s producer and cinematographer, Paul Dufilho, a Houston-based media producer.
The comedic short won the 2016 Audience Award at its first screening on July 19 and garnered several additional accolades at the 48 Hour Film Project’s “Best of” Screening, including Best Acting (GrothOlson), Best Writing (GrothOlson & McMahon), Best Ensemble Cast, and 3rd Best Overall Film.
